In 2014, for the first time Moldova participated in the global girls-only app-development challenge Technovation, which encourages girls to engage in IT careers. The program lasts 12 weeks. During this time, teams of 3 to 5 girls, guided by a mentor, follow an online program to learn the basics of app development and how to prepare a business plan, and test, develop and market their ideas.

I was involved in the Moldovan program together with a number of Peace Corps volunteers and mentored the Chisinau-based team Ada Lovelace – which went ahead to develop an amazing blood donation app called “BlooDrop”, the winner at national level in Moldova.

I also participated in the international jury for the global competition.
