I am one of the founders of RockIT Academy, a new initiative bringing together students looking for a career in the digital sector, with professionals and companies looking for just such trained people. The Academy organises a first 5-week, evening course in digital communications due to start in January – a new concept for Moldova, with trainers which are active professionals, hands-on practical cases, real project work along a period of time, online support throughout the course and concrete work placement opportunities at the end of the 5 weeks.

The launch event yesterday at Orange Studio in Chisinau was attended by many interested students, Stela Mocan from the e-government center, Aurelia Salicov who is deputy director of Starnet, Veronica Cretu from Open Government Institute, and the three founders of RockIT Academy and trainers in the digital communication course: myself, Alexandru Lebedev from #diez and Artur Gurau from Granat. In the audience we had also representatives of Orange, TEKEDU, Expert Group and the National Association of Private ICT Companies (ATIC). We had a great debate about how ready is Moldova to grasp the opportunities offered by the continuing growth of the digital sector and to face the e-skills challenge.
